GW102 Development Manual

Upgrade System

The GW102 gateway supports system updates in different ways, which are broadly divided into two categories

Application Scenarios

  • Mass production update: suitable for initial system programming of devices in the factory. Switch the boot jumper to SD card, use a bootable SD card, and it will automatically boot and complete programming.
  • Online update: suitable for updating after partial modifications to a system that can already boot. Store the update package on the SD card and automatically complete the update via commands.

Creating an Update Package The "i2SOM-iMX-BuildUpdatePkg" directory under the 04-Tools directory is used to create system update packages.

Usage The command for the GW102-D512E4 configuration is as follows:

./BuildUpdatePkg-amd64-linux -p 1 -d gw102d512e4-allpart -t gw102allpart

The command for the GW102-D256N256 configuration is as follows:

./BuildUpdatePkg-amd64-linux -p 2 -d gw102d256n256-allpart -t gw102allpart

Creating a System Image for Mass Production Update A mass production update image actually consists of two parts: a bootable system and an update package. The generated image file can be written directly to an SD card.

The "i2SOM-BuildUpdateSDImage" directory under the 04-Tools directory is used to create mass production system images.

The command for the GW102-D512E4 configuration is as follows:

./CreateSDUpdateImage-amd64-linux -p 1 -f nxp-imx6ull-firmware -u gw102-d512e4-allpart -t gw102allpart

The command for the GW102-D256N256 configuration is as follows:

./BuildUpdatePkg-amd64-linux -p 2 -f nxp-imx6ull-firmware -u gw102-d256n256-allpart -t gw102allpart

The generated sdcard.gz file is an image file that can be used to boot from the SD card and complete automatic flashing.

Mass Production Update Method

Use the usbit tool or the dd command to write the sdcard.gz file to the SD card.

Set the boot jumpers to the SD card boot state

  • JP2 connected
  • JP3 disconnected

Then insert the prepared SD card into the card slot. After powering on, you will see log messages of the automatic system update on the debug serial port.

After the update is complete, power off and remove the SD card. Then switch the corresponding boot jumpers.

Online Update Method

Copy the prepared update package .swu file to the SD card (the SD card file system must be FAT32), and insert the SD card into the card slot. Restart the system or power it off and on again. Press Enter to stay at the U-Boot command line. New versions have removed the boot countdown; it has been changed so that you enter the U-Boot command line only after pressing the letters "db".

Update method for the GW102-D512E4 configuration

setenv mmcpart 2
run bootcmd

Update method for the GW102-D256N256 configuration

setenv mtdbootpart recovery
run bootcmd

The system will then enter recovery and update the system using the .swu file on the SD card.
